Don't let the Orphan Works Bill Pass! Or you will lose rights to your work as artists!!

Basically, all the work that you do, all the copyrights on it will be VOID.
Quote, "if Congress passes this law, YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR OWN CREATIONS! [...] Our government is NOW WORKING AGAINST US by allowing our own citizens TO STEAL OUR CREATIVE WORKS" (Simon, Mark).

Protect your rights and let your voice be heard! If not, and we do nothing, the bill will be passed by this summer

WRITE to the government! : [link]
REPOST this and let others be known!!
Copy and pasted from :iconsilentreaper: Thanks for letting me know!

And some more angles: [link]

I AM SOOO CONFUSED! I listened and read everything, and I don't get WHAT THE HELL it's doing anymore!!! I thought I did--then I got my doubts, and now I'm swimming in a big bowl of "WTF"'s. Will someone make this easier to understand? Will this affect everybody? Is this just for older works? I DON'T GET IT. D:

I'll just summarize a few points tho:

-Orphan works are those where the original owner cannot be found for a piece of work.

-Should someone wish to use an "Orphaned Work" they must prove they made a diligent effort (by guidelines set out by the government) to find the original creator of this work

-If a person emerges with proof that their work has been used unfairly, compensation can be sought.

-To safeguard yourself, you should be adding your name or watermark to your works. This should be happening -all the time-

etc etc, happy reading :D

yes, they are. Totally the fault of the people who are freaking others out. People should think calmly about the situation and act appropriately .. not freak out.

I hope it helped clear the situation for you at least.

Thanks a lot. It really helps to just give the facts and not the opinion. :D

It's an unbiased, non-drama journal. People need to stop listening to fear-mongering.

I agree completely..when I first found out about this, I read the links and passed on the info, but as things have further developed, it has only severed to make me more confused. There just doesn't seem to be enough concret information right now, and I have no idea what is fact or fiction at this time. However, the admistators of DA are looking into it and I am told that they will let us know if this will be effecting us artists and authors in any way... so I guess just sit back and try not to add to the mayhem? hope that helps a little
